Preston Doane's New Presentation of his Caribbean Phantasms at the Top Hat Gallery
ST. CROIX, U.S.V.I. _ The famous Top Hat Restaurant in Christiansted, St. Croix, now an art gallery, but still presided by Hanne and Bent Rasmussen, is announcing the Preston Doane Collection of Paintings on Giclee. The exhibit opened July 9, 2008 and is on view until July 26, Thursday through Saturday from 5:00 PM - until. Light fare and libation are available in the intimate Top Hat lounge.
Preston Doane, a recognized and distinguished Virgin Island artist, presents his newly blended hybrid concoctions of acrylic, india ink, and oil pastel, applied over his Iris giclee reproductions of Caribbean scenes glimpsed on his island odysseys.
Among his thirty two framed pieces on view, is an image of the old rum shop at Baron Spot where now exists an extensive shopping mall. Rural Caribbean seasoning is captured in a down town island scene with men limin around an old truck after a day of farm work. A scene of Ted Dale's Club Comanche contributes to the nostalgia. A seaplane is caught suspended in its landing approach to Christiansted Harbor; the town and boat population jewel-like at the end of its trajectory. A selection of unframed giclees is sold at affordable prices and perfect for gift giving or home and office decor.
"The exhibit is a must-see, a rare presentation of the aesthetically powerful work of this accomplished artist," according to Norma Krieger, Founder and Director of the Society of Caribbean Artists (SOCA).
